Push the tip in like a shovel until the platform is contacting the ground. If a root is in the way, move around the base until you find a clear area. You can kick on the platform to insert but remember the idea is to go in between the roots not bust through them.
Lower the tube until the platform is fully contacting the ground. Move to the end of the tube and apply SLOW downward pressure at first to make sure the tip is fully engaged. If its not, kick in the tip a little. Once the tip is secure, go ahead and apply all
the weight you can or need to get it out. Short ‘bursts’ of power works well on tough ones, where the idea is to raise the crown a little at a time. When you start hearing a ripping sound coming from the roots, the battle is won, and it won’t be
long before the bush is history.
ROOT BREAKER POSITION- This is an adjustment you can make to extend the tip 3 inches to hook under deeper roots. This adjustment is to be used sparingly, as it decreases the leverage, however, you will find it comes in very handy at times.
If the suckle will not budge, you need to break the individual support roots one at a time. Since you can’t see them, you have to find them.
Insert the tip straight down about a foot to the side of the shrub and lower the tube. The idea is to hook under the root and break it. Often, you can hook under the root with the tool in the Popping position. If the tip does not ‘find’ a root move around the base
and try again. Most roots snap easily. If you engage a root that will not break, move further out and break it were its smaller. Sometimes when doing this, you will feel it hitting a root but the tip is unable to hook under it. This is when you extend to the Root Breaker Position to hook under and snap the deeper root.
Remember to return to the Popping position for better leverage when popping.
After the suckle is removed, hit the root ball on the tip of the tool to remove
the dirt from the roots.
